5 month update!

We are 5 months post-op and doing great. We visited Dr. Thompson yesterday for our final check-up before spring removal. Dr. Thompson was very pleased with the bone growth and the shape of Luke's head. We are planning to schedule the procedure for spring removal in the next couple of weeks.

Here is a side-by-side comparison of the scans they took of Luke's head at our initial consultation and one they took yesterday. Notice in the initial scan (left side) the back of the head is much narrower than the front, and the nose/cheek bones aren't visible because of the protruding forehead. The current scan shows that the back of the head is nice and round and is wider than the front (normal). Plus you can now see Luke's cute cheeks and nose!! We are so happy with the results!

Just a note on these scans: they are the coolest thing ever! We would hate to have to do x-rays or (even worse) CT scans every few months. The technology they use for these scans was taken from the movie "I, Robot". The tech lets me hold Luke on my lap and uses a flashing light toy to capture his attention, then she uses what looks like a hand-held bar code scanner like you see at the grocery store. She literally scans his whole head with a red laser and a 3D image appears on a computer monitor. It's really amazing to watch and is over in about 30 seconds.

Please keep us in prayer as we get ready to face anesthesia again. This last procedure should be pretty quick and we go home the same day. The incisions are basically small nicks in the scalp so that the springs can be slipped out. We are excited to have it over with!
